RedTribe Beadwork

Empowering women and girls to provide for their family

From humble beginnings with just one skilled widow, a handful of beads, and a small budget, our beadwork enterprise has grown to employ over 20 regular women and up to 60 during larger orders empowering them to support their families.

We have supported the community in creating a sellable product that continues to thrive globally. The profits from this enterprise have allowed us to sponsor gifted girls from poor families through their education and training, as well as fund the training of female teachers at the Maasai Academy. Together, we are empowering the Maasai community and building a bright future.

Noolturot is one of five wives and has seven children, and life is a struggle for her. Her work at RedTribe has been important since she has little or no financial help from her husband. He is a traditional man who values his cows more than his wife and his children. Noolturot is always cheerful and values her time beading and chatting with the other artisans. She is a valuable member of the team!

Nontinanna is RedTribe’s beadwork manager and has overcome many obstacles to get where she is now; like so many others she has not been able to make choices of her own. Even with limited education, and having undergone FGM as well as an unwanted arranged marriage, she has - with great faith, courage, determination, and hardwork - become a strong and empowered woman and role model, who brilliantly manages and helps disciple our team of artisans. She trained in educating women about the harmful practice of FGM and has used her knowledge to help eradicate this practice as far as is possible.

RedTribe is so privileged to have Nontinnana on the team.
